🛠️ Les soldes : Un outil commercial sous-estimé par les artisans/créateurs ? - Carotte & Cie

🛠️ Sales: An underestimated commercial tool by artisans/creators?

🛠️ Sales: An underestimated commercial tool by artisans/creators?

Sales: a sensitive subject for artisans and creators.

We often see posts on social media where female creators explain why they don't offer discounts. Their argument? They offer a fair price all year round.
And honestly, I thought so too. For a long time, I held this view, convinced that it reflected honesty and transparency towards my customers. And it's true: my prices are calculated to cover raw materials, labor time, overheads... But on reflection, does this message really send the right image?

🚨 The hidden message behind this discourse

By refusing sales on principle, we can unintentionally convey problematic ideas:
🔴 That a "high" margin or profit is unfair in craftsmanship.
🔴 That prices must be kept low, even at the expense of profitability, to be "honest".
🔴 That craftsmanship is incompatible with profit or growth.

Yet, these ideas go against what I want to advocate: an artisan should be able to live from their work, right?

💡 What if sales became an ethical lever for artisans?

Large companies use sales to boost their activity. So, why shouldn't artisans integrate this commercial lever, in an adapted and responsible way? When used well, sales can have very positive effects:
Create commercial momentum and draw attention to your shop.
Boost sales during off-peak periods.
Make room for your new collections.
Retain your customers while attracting new ones.

🌿 Responsible sales aligned with my values

Sales don't have to rhyme with overconsumption. They can reflect the commitments of artisans:
🫶 Offer discounts on end-of-series items or discontinued products.
🫶 Anticipate your stock to avoid surplus and limit losses.
🫶 Associate sales with a positive action, such as a donation to a social or environmental cause.
🫶 Highlight the quality and durability of creations.
🫶 Emphasize the impact of local and responsible purchases to encourage different consumption patterns.

❤️ So, artisans and sales: compatible or not?

Ultimately, sales are just another business tool. When used well, they can be consistent with creators' values. The key is to integrate them thoughtfully and appropriately 👌

For me, sales are not incompatible with my activity as an artisan/creator; discounted products do not deny my brand's values but have their full worth and make room for new items.
